How to Import MP3s Into Your Music Player

iTunes

Unfortunately there is currently no way for iTunes to actively monitor a directory to see if new MP3s have been added (such as by Music Buddy).  However, there are some third-party applications that can automate the process of importing MP3s (see here).

One nice feature of iTunes is that it won't add MP3s twice if you add a directory repeatedly.  This provides for a couple of ways to manually add MP3s to your library:
  • Use the "File -> Add Folder to Library..." menu item and select your Music Buddy download folder.
  • In Windows File Explorer, drag and drop your Music Buddy download folder into iTunes.
Since Music Buddy edits the MP3 title tag to include "[Music Buddy - Feed Name]," you can easily filter your library for music either from Music Buddy or from a specific feed.  To do this, just type "Music Buddy" or the name of a specific feed in the search box at the top-right of iTunes.

You can apply this same idea to create a Smart Playlist that will automatically provide a list of Music Buddy MP3s.  Select the "File -> New Smart Playlist" menu item.  Edit the Smart Playlist criteria to read "Name", "contains", "Music Buddy".  You will now have a playlist of all of the Music Buddy MP3s.

Winamp

Winamp provides the option to rescan folders manually or automatically, to detect when new music has been copied or downloaded (by Music Buddy, for example), and add those files to your media library.  To activate this feature, open the Winamp Preferences window.  In the left-hand tree, navigate to "Media Library -> Local Media".  Select the "Watch Folders" tab.  Ensure that your Music Buddy download folder is either included directly in the Watch Folders list, or a parent directory is included along with the option to scan subfolders.

To have Winamp automatically rescan folders, select either the "Rescan folders at startup" option or the "Rescan folders every xxx minutes" option.  If you prefer to have Winamp rescan folders manually, you can press the "Rescan Now" button at any time you choose.

If you prefer to manually add files to your media library instead of having Winamp scan directories, you can select "Library -> Add Media to Library..." from the Media Library window and navigate to your Music Buddy download folder.

To create a dynamic playlist with your Music Buddy MP3s, go to your media library and right-click on "Local Media" in the left-hand tree menu.  Select "Add Smart View...".  Create a name for this smart view, such as "Music Buddy MP3s".  Click on the "+" button to create a new set of view criteria.  Set the criteria to "Title", "contains", "Music Buddy".  Click "Okay" to finish creating the view.

If you simply want to add your Music Buddy MP3s to a playlist instead of your Media Library, select "Add -> Add folder..." from the Winamp Playlist window.  Navigate to your Music Buddy download directory and select "OK".
